Harmanpreet Kaur’s Bat That Talks
As I started this blog as a practice, I wanted to give an impressive introduction to one of the greatest women cricketers in the history – Harmanpreet Kaur. But..
Facts strike me hard. Does Harmanpreet Kaur need any introduction? Doesn’t her 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup performance put women’s cricket on the podium with Harmanpreet in the lead? Will my words do any justice to her glory?
Harmanpreet hails from Moga – a small town in punjab. Although the town was small, not the mindset of her parents. No one dreamt a girl born on International Women’s day in 1989 would take women’s cricket to unstoppable limits.
Harmanpreet’s father was an ex-basketball, cricket and volleyball player who saw the sportive spark in young Harmanpreet Kaur early. He encouraged her daughter to pursue cricket. This led Harman to coach – Kamaldish Singh Sodhi.
The situation of Women Cricket until Harmanpreet Kaur’s Entry
Ironically, women’s cricket was not a celebrated sport like men’s cricket. The year 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup when the Indian women’s team became runner up. This drew the focus of the BCCI and corporate world toward the women cricketers, and the rest is history now.
But as I raised the issue of the situation of women cricket. One incident related to Harmanpreet Kaur drew attention to harsh reality, where she stated how little allowance women cricket team players get on their foregin trips. In the same way, she had to face the problems in securing a job for herself. At last Sachin Tendulkar helped her to secure a job in Maharashtra.
But you leave India aside, the situation of women cricketers is the same across the world. The disparity in payouts, low price amount, and less public interest in women’s cricket puts a bar on women’s cricket popularity.
But there is no denying that women cricketers have started getting their due now. Harman’s batting proves that women cricketers and their shots are not any less compared to men cricketers. Without a doubt, here, Harmanpreet Kaur’s contribution draws loud applause.
It’s Harmanpreet Kaur’s bat that talks
Being a big Virender Sehwag fan, Harman started her career as a medium-pacer but later found her comfort in batting. Her ease in playing flawless conventional and smooth power hits makes her batting special.
If you closely monitor Harmanpreet’s batting, you will see that she can easily play unorthodox shots like reverse sweep and helicopter shots as effortlessly as she enjoys playing her classical shots . Her ability to hit the ball long is remarkable.
During the 2017 women’s world cup semi-final match against Australia, Harman scored 171 runs in 115 balls and remained not out. Unfortunately, the Indian women’s team could not win the world cup title, but Harmanpreet Kaur’s performance added a new zeal among Indian women cricket fans.
Girls started idolizing Harman. And in the same year, Harmanpreet received the Arjuna Award.
A close glimpse of Harmanpreet Kaur’s Batting Stats
Generally, she plays in the middle order and can end the inning in Dhoni style. But now trying Harmanpreet at 3rd order is seen on cards – source – firstpost.com

If you observe Harmanpreet Kaur’s cricket stats, you will notice she performs well in one day and T20 formats. She has the highest score of 171 (not out) in women’s cricket one day international and 103 in T20 format. She has an impressive strike rate of 71.21.
The list is not complete till the mention of Harman’s participation in Women’s Big Bash League.
In 2016, a new feather was added in her cap, with her inclusion in an overseas franchise – Sydney Thunder for T20 in Women’s Big Bash League. It was a tremendous achievement, as, till now none of Indian – men or women cricketers had ever got such a chance yet.
Harmanpreet Kaur – Important matches to remember
- In 2010, against England in a women’s T20 match, she secured 33 runs.
- In 2014, Harman took 9 wickets in a test match against South Africa women cricketers and made the Indian victory possible by an Inning.
- In 2016, she secured 46 runs in 31 balls. As a result, the Indian women’s team registered a victory.
- Not only this, Harmanpreet is the first Indian player who got an opportunity to play in an overseas T20 cricket league.
Harmanpreet Kaur and her dynamic world of Glory
While scanning Harmanpreet Kaur’s career stats, I admired the dynamic side that establishes her as an all-rounder. Although Harmanpreet likes to call herself a learner.
She started her career as a medium pace bowler and shone as a batter. Her batting stats grabbed more attention than her bowling stint. Her being on pitch assures Indian victory. Recently after the match ceremony during the women’s world cup 2022, Harman’s performance was good , but she missed the player of the match trophy.
Smriti Madana noticed her efforts and offered to share her player of the match title with her.
This all makes Harmanpreet Kaur an outstanding sportsperson.
At str8bat, we too, felt the same about her. We’re proud to have Harmanpreet Kaur as our brand ambassador. Like Harmanpreet Kaur, str8bat cricket bat sensor analytics are also dynamic. That pulls the attention of budding batters on improvement.
On a concluding note
It doesn’t mean Harman Kaur doesn’t face failure. Although she is vice captain of the Indian women’s team, her performance as captain to take India to victory was not up to the mark.
But It never derailed her from upgrading her game or learning new shots. Otherwise who can think of a small town girl, from middle class roots – can become an idol to new gen women cricketers.
Str8bat’s entire team is grateful to have Harmanpreet Kaur as our brand ambassador, and we wish her nothing but success and constant improvement while using the str8bat cricket bat sensor.
